The Djangologists

Overview

The Djangologists are an acoustic “jazz-manouche” quartet comprising of violin, guitars and double bass. The suave sound of French jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli and Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt are the strongest influences on this ensemble – a sound that can be found in many haunts on the streets of Paris. Our repertoire consists of a heady mix of Swing-Jazz, Blues, Classical, Brazilian and French melodies all performed with a decidedly European feel and we take all song requests. We can add vocals, French-style accordion or smooth clarinet/saxophone to our lineup or can perform as a 2-4 piece to suit your needs. We also have an extensive and ever-growing song repertoire list available on request.

Function highlights over the past 5 years has included numerous appearances at venues including The Establishment, Museum of Contemporary Art, OperaBar, Bennelong Restaurant and Quaybar Cafe. The members’ shared experiences has included work with well-know international and national artists/groups including Lulo and Mike Reinhardt (Germany), Slava Gregorian, George Washingmachine, Ian Date, Monsieur Camembert, Waiting For Guinness and Swing City amongst many others.

The Djangologists are:

  • Daniel Weltlinger (violin)
  • Nigel Date (acoustic guitar)
  • John Blenkhorn (acoustic guitar)
  • Stan Valacos/John Maddox (double bass)
